Department of Humanities

 

The UMaine Farmington Department of Humanities offers courses in English,  Creative Writing, Philosophy, Religion, and Modern Foreign Languages, including French, German, Spanish, Chinese, and Russian.

At UMaine Farmington, the Department of Humanities is home to more than two hundred students majoring in English, Secondary Education-English, Creative Writing, and Philosophy/Religion.

The Department is affiliated with Alice James Press, and it sponsors the Visiting Writers Series and several student publications, including Apropos, The Sandy River Review, and Eclectica.

As part of the Philosophy and Popular Culture Series, sponsored by
the Department of Humanities, students and faculty participated in a
‘Plato and Superman’ panel discussion focused on Plato’s
The Republic
and the television series Smallville.
